Louis
H. Barr, MD, FACS
Surgical Oncologist
Dr. Barr was educated at the Georgetown University
School of Medicine in Washington, DC and trained as
a general surgery intern and first-year resident at
Yale-New Haven Hospital in Connecticut. He completed
his residency training at Temple University in Philadelphia
and went on to fellowship training at the National
Cancer Institute, Surgery Branch of the National Institutes
of Health in Bethesda. Dr. Barr served on the faculty
at LSU Shreveport before coming to Florida to join
a local general surgery group in the 1980s and has
remained in Orlando ever since. He was one of the
first faculty members of Florida Hospital’s
General Surgery Residency Program in 2006.

Steve
Eubanks, MD, FACS
General Surgeon
Dr. Eubanks came to Florida Hospital in September
of 2010 as the Director of Academic Surgery. Dr. Eubanks
is a graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham
School of Medicine and was trained in General Surgery
at Georgia Baptist Medical Center in Atlanta. He was
the first Minimally Invasive Surgery Fellow at Duke
University and went on to serve on the Duke faculty
for 10 years. Dr. Eubanks was Professor and Chairman
of the Department of Surgery at the University of
Missouri prior to coming to Florida Hospital. Dr Eubanks
has served as the President of SAGES, published 8
surgical books and approximately 90 peer-reviewed
journal articles. His primary areas of clinical and
research interests are advanced minimally invasive
surgery and upper gastrointestinal diseases.

Rhonda
L. Harmon, MD, FACS
General Surgeon
Dr. Harmon joined the faculty of Surgical Specialists
at Florida Hospital in April of 2007. She obtained
her MD degree from Medical University of South Carolina
and did her surgical residency at Washington Hospital
Center in Washington, DC. Dr. Harmon was Assistant
Professor of Surgery at University of Texas Southwestern
Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, from 2005 to 2007.
She currently serves as the Clerkship Director for
the Florida Hospital Surgical Residency Program and
the Florida Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program.
She is also the Clinical Assistant Professor in the
Department of Clinical Sciences at Florida State University.
In February 2011, Dr. Harmon was invited to speak
at the XII International Congress of General Surgeons
in Lima, Peru, where she spoke on laparoscopic inguinal
hernia surgery, laparoscopic incisional hernia surgery
and laparoscopic single incision cholecystectomy.

Jean
F. Miner, MD, FACS
General Surgeon
Dr. Miner joined the faculty of Surgical Specialists
at Florida Hospital in September of 2007 following
the completion of her fellowship training in Minimally
Invasive Surgery at Florida Hospital. Dr. Miner was
a member of the first graduating class of that fellowship
program. Dr. Miner is a graduate of Louisiana State
University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, and
completed her residency training at LSU in New Orleans.
Dr. Miner was Administrative Chief Resident during
Hurricane Katrina and assisted in reorganizing the
program following the disaster. She was invited by
the American College of Surgeons to present her experiences
during Katrina at the 2006 Clinical Congress. Dr.
Miner was appointed Program Director of the Florida
Hospital General Surgery Residency in May 2010. She
is also an Associate Professor of Surgery for Florida
State University College of Medicine.

Joseph
D. Portoghese, MD, FACS
General Surgeon
Dr. Portoghese has been a member of the medical staff
of Florida Hospital since 1989 and was President of
the Medical Staff from 2004-2006. As Florida Hospital
moved forward into the medical education arena, Dr.
Portoghese was selected to become Program Director
of the General Surgery Residency Program, which was
first accredited in 2006. Dr. Portoghese is a graduate
of the University of South Florida College of Medicine
where he also completed his residency training. While
in private practice since completion of his training,
he has focused on general surgery. Dr. Portoghese
has been a clerkship faculty for Florida State University
College of Medicine since 2002 and was appointed Associate
Professor of Surgery for the University of Central
Florida College of Medicine in 2007.

Alric
V. Simmonds, Jr, MD, FACS
General Surgeon
Dr. Simmonds joined Surgical Specialists at Florida
Hospital in August of 2006 and was the second member
of the faculty to join the General Surgery Residency
Program. Dr. Simmonds obtained his Doctor of Medicine
degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine
and Public Health. His residency training was obtained
at Howard University Hospital. He received distinction
as a National Health Disparities Scholar for his two
years of Post-Doctoral Research sponsored by the National
Institute of Health through the Department of Surgery
at the University of Miami.
